ALL ABOUT BRANDY BORCICKY

Be so good they can’t ignore you
— Steve Martin

At the very top of this post, you can find Brandy’s favorite quote, which is something I plan on doing for all of my conversations to come. I think that Brandy’s quote is very fitting and that it’s certain no one will be able to ignore her.

Brandy attended the University of Alabama and majored in Advertising and double minored in Art and Business. Later she attended The Creative Circus in Atlanta, Georgia where she studied Art Direction and focused on building a portfolio based around numerous hands-on projects. She was then able to use this portfolio to apply for jobs by the time she graduated.

One of her biggest tips for me was to always look at the big picture- something many perfectionists such as myself struggle to do because you’re so caught up in the minute details. One piece of advice I always try to remind myself is to simply do it… whatever it is that needs to be started because I’ll always hold myself up on the little details.

Brandy is currently a senior graphic designer at ShoeDazzle in Los Angeles, California. Four times a month, you can find her on set directing photoshoots, while other times she’s creating concepts and planning various ideas for upcoming projects. She’s able to pull inspiration from Pinterest and the Internet in general when creating photoshoot concepts which to me sounds like a lot of fun because I could spend hours scrolling through Pinterest planning out a shoot. Brandy was also very proud to inform me that ShoeDazzle is starting to take on more sustainable packaging which I was thrilled to hear.

We dove into what her move to LA was like, and to start it wasn’t easy. With the help of some friends that already lived in the area, she was able to make the big move. Originally, she always considered NY but after graduating grad school she had a change of heart and decided LA made more sense; so she chose to believe in herself and take a risk. Some important tips that Brandy shared with me for those interested in moving to a big city post-college are to:

1) Save your money 2) Get work experience 3)Network!

We ended our call talking about how if Brandy could go back to college and change one thing, it would have been exploring more of what she truly wanted to do and reaching out to more people.

If you’re interested in seeing/learning more about what a day in the life of a senior graphic designer in LA is like, you should follow Brandy on Instagram where she posts videos on this. Brandy plans on making more videos in the future so don’t forget to follow her if this may seem like a job you can see yourself doing, and if you have any questions for Brandy make sure to send her an email!
