NYFW

It’s here! NYFW is taking over Manhattan and just about all of Instagram all week and I am sooo excited to be helping out at NYFW for the very first time.

For the past few weeks, I’ve been researching NYFW designers and have stumbled upon a few designers I’ve never heard of before that caught my attention. The first company being Bevza- a Ukrainian brand founded by Svitlana Bevza who designs her clothing with ethnic symbols and cultural codes and reimagines them in a modern way. Being Ukrainian made this extremely fascinating for me, however as I was reading about the different designers, I was impressed by the cultural representation overall. One aspect of Bevza I really liked is that “[their] eco-friendly digitally printed coats are the new alternative to fur. And certain knitted pieces are made of recycled plastic and leftovers of fabrics.” The style of Bevza’s dresses are also very much my taste so that’s another reason I love the brand. Here I have a picture of Bevza’s dress Abla, it’s a bestseller and one of my personal favorites.

Besides researching and reaching out to various brands for a potential feature in Raine Magazine, I also had the opportunity to volunteer at a NYFW showcase for Designer Dreu Beckemberg and The Doe Online. My day consisted of waking up at 4:00am, steaming an all black outfit and driving to the train station with Madeline Kizer. Madeline and I got to spend all day at the Parlor NYC, setting up the event in the morning to then helping facilitate the event later on in the day. Set up included laying down a turf the cover the ground with white tape overlapping the create a “criquet” atmosphere as one of the collections being featured was Beckemberg’s “Cricket Club” Collection. Another section was set up with moss/nature themes so we helped lay out the “moss,” taping it to the ground and making sure it looked appealing.

During the event itself, I was the hostess so right when the guests would come downstairs to the exhibition I would greet them, tell them a bit about Dreu Beckemberg’s first piece and then invite them to scan a QR code that ties in an interactive component to the show. As guests wrapped up their time at the exhibit and began to exit, I would send them off with a DOE Online goodie bag and it was such an amazing experience. I even got to see Nova Lorraine and her photographer Vitaly which was one of my highlights of the day, and we got to catch up and take pictures together.

It was pretty crazy getting to experience Manhattan during one of its most hectic weeks of the year. I saw countless Black SUV Rideshare Drivers and you just know the people riding in them had to be famous. Also, if you happen to ever be on 33rd street in Manhattan, I highly recommend stopping at Gregory’s Coffee- their Chocolate Chip cookies are sooo bomb and baked fresh. Highly Highly recommend.
